HUMAN RIGHTS

...and another thing....

There seem to be a lot of public comments about "offending my human rights" and "where are MY human rights" in the press these days.

Let's get it clear - the Human Rights Act came into effect in the UK in October 2000
and broadly guarantees:
  • the right to life
  • the right to liberty and security
  • the right to a fair trial
  • the right to a private life and freedom of expression
  • & prohibits torture, slavery and forced labour.

The last time I checked the majority of my British chums were all alive (check), free (check), secure (check), had private lives (yup), not tortured (good), slaves (nope) or forced to work (only by their mortgages) and those who have been imprisoned certainly deserved it (don't ask).

So - sort it out society, be greatful for what you DO have, and be responsible for your own actions.

Lekker.

POLITICAL CORRECTNESS

I've just been watching the highbrow television show that is "Hell's Kitchen" and witnessed a debate between two competitors about "political correctness".

Ug. I hate that phrase. It seems to evoke great passion among those who'd rather cling to their bigoted beliefs.

When did it become wrong or irritating to "love they neighbour as thyself" or to treat people with dignity & respect?

Answers on the back of a ethnic background/sexual preference/religious belief form, please...
